Knife amnesty bin gets a facelift

A BIN which has helped to rid the streets of Bury St Edmunds of hundreds of weapons went on a trip this week, to get a facelift.

The town’s Bin a Blade amnesty bin, along with similar bins from outside Ipswich, Lowestoft and Mildenhall police stations, are getting a fresh new ‘stand out’ look.

They will return in two weeks but, whilst they are away, anyone wishing to dispose of knives can hand them into the public enquiry offices at the police stations without prejudice.

Last year saw 6,125 knives collected. So far this year, a further 1,640 have been deposited, with 262 of those in Bury alone.

Chief constable Simon Ash said: “We are very grateful to our partners in supporting the ongoing amnesty, and allowing the bins to be resprayed.”
