“I put my name down for the London Marathon and I haven’t stopped running since,” says Bury St Edmunds man
Runner Paul Johnson ispreparing for his first marathon next month, for the National Blind Children’s Society.
In the past six months, Paul, 32, from Bury St Edmunds, has run his first 10k, and his first half marathon which was at Silverstone earlier this month.
“I’ve been training to become a Personal Trainer, so my first job was to train myself in something I’ve never done before – running,” he said.
“I wanted to make sure I could do everything I asked of my clients, and as I rarely did
any cardio I thought I needed to push myself in that area.
“As the London Marathon is the most extreme running event I could think of, I put my name down and I haven’t stopped running since.”
He said he was nervous going into the half marathon at Silverstone but was buoyed by support from friends and family.
“all of the training I’ve done running around Bury St Edmunds held me in good steed.
“In part this was due to all the support I’ve had from my friends and family as it’s been a lot of hard work and a lot of time, but it’s not over yet.
“Until I pass the line at the marathon I can’t stop.”
Paul is trying to raise £1,350 for the NBCS, a charity which helps blind and partially sighted children achieve their educational and recreational goals.
“Running for the NBCS has really helped me focus, as if I gave up, not only would I be letting myself down, I’d be letting down a fabulous charity that does so much
wonderful work for blind and partially sighted children.”
