MP David Ruffley officially reopened the new look Howard Estate Post Office in Bury St Edmunds today – the first of its kind in East Anglia.

The new look Post Office has had an investment of more than £50,000 and had closed for two weeks at the begining of the year.

It is now not only more spacious but will offer more services and be open for longer.

Youngsters from Howard Primary School joined Mr Ruffley, postmaster and post mistress Neil and Shelia Clarke, and other members of the community for the officially opening.

When asked what the old look post office was like, eight-year-old Rosie Marston said ‘Bad’ while Benjamin Moye, said the new look was ‘a lot better’.

Mr Ruffley described the youngsters as the ‘future users’ of the Post Office, and told how he and Mr Clarke had discussed plans to revamp the building as far back as 10 years ago.

“The majority of people have been delighted with the light airy spacious new look,” said Mr Clarke. “They have been very positive, very supportative.

“Most were just glad to see use reopened after two weeks.”

Although the branch reopened a week ago, today’s event saw a ribbon cutting ceremony as the branch was officially relaunched.
