How accountancy student showed her creative flair: The success story behind Lilyo in Bury St Edmunds
Lily Daly of Lilyo in St John's Street, Bury.
Her father was a fashion designer with ‘an eye for colours and styles’. Lily Daly dreamed of one day pursuing her own creative ambition.
But it was not until she was studying accountancy at university, that Lily started making her own jewellery.
“I guess I’m lucky I had a dad who didn’t have a boring job. It was great to grow up amid all that excitement and creativity,” said Lily.
She had been working for an accountancy for four months when husband Mark landed a job in Bury.
“I decided to take the plunge. We actually signed the lease on the shop before we found the house.”

Lilyo opened in St John’s Street in December 2006.
Then during a trip to Hong Kong, Lily fell in love with pearls which she now specialises in.
“The bespoke business was never really part of my plan – I just thought I would make my jewellery and sell it,” she said.
But requests for different colours and lengths saw her offer a tailored service.
“What really suprises me is the loyalty of customers. They are so nice.
“I had an email from a woman from Scotland who is getting married – her sister-in-law had recommended me.
“I have got another lady who has got the same necklace in 100 different colours so it can accompany anything.”
