A fund-raising campaign to raise money for a £60,000 baby bereavement suite at West Suffolk Hospital in Bury St Edmunds, is now underway.

The first fund-raising event towards the new facility has been organised by the gratefuk parents of a boy born six weeks premature.

Baby George Gooderham survived and is about to celebrate his first birthday on Wednesday (20).

His parents Dave and Sarah Gooderham have organised a charity auction full or signed England, Ipswich Town and other football and sports related goodies.

The auction will come to a close on March 2 when the couple will hold a race nightand raffle, open to all, at the Red Lion in Steeple Bumpstead, near Haverhill, starting at 7.30pm

The hospital used to have a a bereavement room called The Jasmine Suite but closed that several years ago to build a new birthing unit.

It currently has a room for bereaved parents but is raising money for a suite where women and families can get practical and psychological support.

Patricia Davis, head of midwifery and general manager at the hospital, said: “This important facility will help parents who sadly lose their babies.

“The suite will be specially designed to be as homely and comfortable as possible so that bereaved families can receive high quality support in a calm and relaxed environment.”
