Honour for minister

A minister is to be made an honorary canon in a ceremony at St Edmundsbury Cathedral.

The Rev Jonathan Alderton-Ford, of Christ Church, Moreton Hall, Bury St Edmunds, is to become a canon next month, after The Right Rev Nigel Stock, Bishop of St Edmundsbury and Ipswich, chose him in recognition of his community work.

The clergyman, who arrived at the church 17 years ago, said: "I feel very pleased about it. It is an honour and everybody who's heard about it has been very pleased."

Since arriving at Moreton Hall, Mr Alderton-Ford has built up Christ Church from 13 people worshipping in a wooden hut to an average congregation of 130 in a purpose-built church.

He is due to receive his new title at the cathedral's Installation of Canons service, on April 20.
