Holly’s words win place as torch bearer
Holly Sheffield from Brandon has been selected to be an Olympic torch bearer in Spalding after winning an essay writing competition.
A 12-YEAR-OLD school girl will keep the fires burning for the Olympics after winning a place to become a torch bearer.
Holly Sheffield, of Elm Close, Brandon, won an essay writing competition at Methwold High School to carry the torch in Spalding on July 4.
The contest was run by the Get Set Network and offered the once in a lifetime opportunity to 212 children across the country.
Their essays had to cover the Olympic values such as courage and friendship.
Holly said: “I’m really thrilled to have been given the chance to carry the torch and it means quite a lot to me.
“The main value I wrote about was friendship because it’s always good to be a friend.”
Her mum Sharon, who runs her own catering business, added: “I’m really pleased for her to be able to experience it and so proud.”
