High standards of quality and safety sees West Suffok Hospital achieve prized accreditation for third time

Consistent high standards of quality and safety has seen West Suffolk’s radiology department hang on to a prized national accreditation.

The ISAS (Imaging Services Accreditation Scheme) standard has been awarded to the hospital in Bury St Edmunds, for the third time by the United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS).

West Suffolk was one of only five in the country and the first in the eastern region to gain the accreditation when it launched in 2011.

The hospital is now used as an example of best practice for other departments across the country who are applying

for the first time.

The re-accreditation comes following a year of assessment, and shows patients are ‘consistently receiving high quality imaging services delivered by competent staff working in a safe environment’.

Nigel Beeton, imaging services manager at West Suffolk Hospital, said: “To have been re-accredited with this sought-after standard is a great testament to all of the

radiology staff at West Suffolk Hospital.

“Our dedicated team has worked hard to make sure we could continue to provide all of the necessary evidence to show we are meeting the high standards which ISAS requires.

“The re-accreditation also gives those people using the department additional independent assurance that they are receiving safe, patient-focused services of the highest quality.”

ISAS accreditation has been jointly developed by the College of Radiographers and the Royal College of Radiologists.

To achieve it, radiology staff must submit a wide

range of written evidence documenting the policies and procedures in place at West Suffolk which help the hospital meet 30 quality standards
