Helicopter crew ‘rescue’ four Magnums at beach

A RESCUE helicopter crew from Wattisham Airfield have hit the headlines by popping out for ice creams.

National newspapers claimed last week that the pilot and co-pilot of a 22 Squadron Sea King landed near the Winterton Dunes Beach Cafe, Norfolk, and went for four Magnum lollies.

But the RAF says it was the rear cabin crew who went shopping while a co-pilot on beach landing training was being given a debrief by his commander in the cockpit. A spokesman said: “Whilst the actions of the rear crew were not standard practice, they were not in breach of regulations.”

Café owner Carmel Shiggins said: “They bought Magnums. They must be easier to manage on a helicopter than a 99.”
