10 years ago:

Work was about to begin on a recycling station at Lackford Waste Site, near Bury St Edmunds. The construction of the £700,000 transfer station had been funded by the Department of Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) and was to be run by Viridor Waste Suffolk, in partnership with St Edmundsbury and Forest Heath district councils. It was due to be completed some time in August

25 years ago:

Grieving relatives had been left shocked by the sight of their loved ones’ graves collapsing under recent torrential rain. Up to 3,000 of 20,000 graves in the Bury St Edmunds Borough Cemetery had subsided as a result the waterlogged chalky ground crumbling below. For the first time ever, cemetery staff were going to work overtime in an all out bid to get the graves back to normal. The main restoration work was due to be tackled during March and April, at an estimated cost of between £5-6,000.

50 years ago:

Ickworth House was to host its first ball in its 137 years’ history. Its 600 ball guests were going to be able to see a collection of silver formed by the Marquises of Bristol, while raising funds for the Sue Ryder Foundation, which provided homes for disabled concentration camp survivors.
