10 years ago:

A new dial-a-ride bus service was launched in Lavenham for it and the surrounding villages. The Lavenham Area Minibus Scheme (LAMBS) provided a service to Bury St Edmunds on Wednesdays, Sudbury on Thursdays, a dial-a-ride on Tuesdays and Fridays and was available for group bookings and hire. The £80 scheme had benefitted from Suffolk County Council, Babergh District Council, The Countryside Agency and local business sponsorship.

25 years ago:

After six months of negotiations, British Rail offered Elmswell Parish Council a 50-year lease of the village railway station at a cost of £50 a year, rising with the retail-price-index. The council, which wanted to use the station for village amenities, opened talks because of the deteriorating state of the station buildings and accepted the offer, subject to inquiries about the cost of overhauling the buildings to the standards required for functions and tenancies.

50 years ago:

Bury St Edmunds brewery firm Greene King confirmed it had bought the freehold of Smith’s Furnishing Co at 37-38 Cornhill, Bury, for £58,000. The directors were in consultation to determine the future use of the premises, which adjoined Greene King’s existing public house, The Castle.
