Greene King hosts Torch handover
At Greene King headquarters, in Westgate Street, the torch was handed over by local man Richard Fitzsimons to Greene King employee Sarah Farley.
Its stop there was by invitation of the official Olympic sponsor, Coca-Cola, with a private party for Greene King employees and their families.
The Rwandan Olympic team even stopped by for a visit, as a thank you to the brewery which is the team’s elite partner sponsor.
As the torches met, the crowds erupted into excited applause.
“It’s been quite emotional - it’s felt really special for it to be here, so close to home,” said Julie Mead, from Elmswell.
Her daughter, Greene King employee Hayley Mead, said: “It’s been really nice to be able to get so close to it and to have someone from Coca-Cola talking us through it, giving the countdown and getting everyone to cheer, really added to the excitement.”
Sarah, from Long Melford, got a huge cheer as she left for the next leg on the run - towards Angel Hill.
From there, it moved on to Bury Leisure Centre, where it was to be greeted by children taking part in the Suffolk Youth Games.
