GCSE results 2008: Record breakers

Students at Stowmarket High School achieved record breaking A*-C results – up five per cent on last year.

Thought to be the school's best ever results, 65 per cent of students scored five or more grades A* to C and 100 per cent of the 260 Year 11s achieved at least one or more pass A* to G grades.

Keith Penn, headteacher, said: "A very large number of students at every level of ability have worked hard to achieve at or above their own personal targets."

Student Katy Wright, 16, scored 11 A*s and a distinction in ICT.

She said: "I'm so pleased all that hard work has finally paid off."

- SIXTY per cent of pupils at Stowupland High School achieved five or more grades A* to C.

While the results were slightly down on last year, out of the 167 pupils who took exams, 95 per cent gained five or more A*-C grades.

In addition, five students were entered for Cantonese and Mandarin GCSEs for the first time and all gained A*s.

Karen Grimes, headteacher, said: "This year's results reflect a strong partnership and a great deal of hard work by students, teachers and parents."

Rosie Swallows took her GCSEs a year early, gaining nine A*s and two As.
