Garden gets makeover in time for judging
Children from Howard Primary, and some of the Howard over-sixties help plant some new shrubs and flowers around the tree planted in memory of Senior Aircraftsman Luke Southgate who was killed in action in Afghanistan. On the Howard Estate, near the shops.
PUPILS from Howard Community Middle School helped to give a Bury St Edmunds garden a makeover ahead of a visit from the Anglia in Bloom judges.
Howard Estate’s Over 60s Club joined the children in clearing weeds, planting new flowers and giving the area a general spruce up. The garden at St Olaves has a special tree planted in memory of Senior Aircraftman Luke Southgate who was killed in Afghanistan in 2010 – and his brother Jack joined the crew for the clean up.
The children are now being nominated for an Anglia in Bloom young persons award for their work on the project.
Bury in Bloom’s Julia Rackowe said: “We are just getting it absolutely top notch for when the judges come on July 19.”
