Martyn Ryan and his cycling friends were seeking a fund raising route to ride and have decided to go from Bury St Edmunds to Bury St Edmunds.

The idea is to cycle the 300 miles from Compiegne Way in Bury St Edmunds to Bury St Edmunds Way in Compiegne, France — Bury’s twin town.

They aim to raise funds for a school in Kenya called St Monicahs. It caters for children from a slum area in Nakuru, who without education would face a life of crime, prostitution and poverty.

Martyn said: “Last year as a fund raiser we did Land’s End to John o’Groats. It’s a brilliant ride, but it’s two weeks so only certain people can do it.

“We thought a lot more would come to Compiegne because it’s only three days off work. At 75 miles a day it’s a reasonable ride for anybody reasonably fit if they just pick up a bike three or four months beforehand.”

They want other cyclists to join them on June 4 to 8. The ride is fully supported so accommodation and return transport are provided.

See the website {http:\\www.stmonicahs.co.uk|www.stmonicahs.co.uk|click here for details} for more details about the school and the ride or call Martyn on 01359 271158 or 07830 932220.
