Less than a month before herer tragic death, Hannah Seeley was a bridesmaid to her friend Beth Mleczek.

The young midwife had just finished a shift at West Suffolk Hospital in Bury St Edmunds and was on her way home to Stanton when she was involved in a car crash and died at the scene. She was 23.

On Saturday Beth and other friends of Hannah’s held a charity ball in her memory and raised £11,200 for two charities – Sands, the stillborn and neonatal death charity, and Acorn House which helps single homeless parents of very young children – a charity which Hannah had been involved with.

Close to 250 people attended the sell out event at The Apex in Bury St Edmunds.

“It was brilliant. Fabulous. We had a lot of positive feedback,” said Beth.

The night included a raffle and auction while companies also sponsored tables.

Prizes include a two week stay at a holiday home in France, a theatre break in London, and bed and breakfast at The Angel Hotel in Bury.

“We would like to do it regularly but I don’t think we could keep it up. All the companies that donated prizes were extremely generous. We raised more than we ever thought we would,” said Beth.

“I think that was all Hannah. She was such a popular person, she was 100 per cent the reason that we were able to raise so much money.

“We will do something yearly, definitely, but probably not on such a big scale as this.”

She told how Hannah was bridesmaid at her wedding three weeks before she died.

“We were best friends for six years. We knew each other from school when we were at Thurston Community College together.

“It was and still is such a tragic situation that we all wanted to do something just to remember her and pay tribute to what she achieved.”
