Forest Heath is seventh highest for workplace injuries
Employees in Forest Heath have the seventh highest level of workplace injuries, per 100,000 employees in the country.
The Association of Personal Injury Lawyers has released figures showing that 919.5 employees per 100,000 had been injured at work in the district during 2011-2012.
The figure is more than double that of St Edmundsbury, at 444.9 per hundred thousand employees.
Mid Suffolk had an even lower rate at 299.6 injuries per 100,000 employees.
A spokesperson for Forest Heath District Council said: “The figures are high for the district of Forest Heath due in part to a combination of the Newmarket racing industry and some large attractions which account for a relatively high percentage of reportable incidents.
“This, linked to a relatively small population, in part explains the high incidence per number of population.”
“The local authority observes the government and Health and Safety Executive’s direction in its role as a health and safety regulator.”
In the East of England 19 workplace deaths were recorded in both 2010-2011 and 2011-2012, one of which was in Forest Heath.
