Flo loses her locks for African adventure

A day after her 17th birthday, an Ixworth girl had her head shaved to raise money so she can take part in wildlife conservation work in Africa.

Flo Bass, who has been sporting multicoloured dreadlocks since September, had her head shaved on Monday at Otley College where she is studying a national diploma in animal management.

"I have never had a short hairstyle before so it will be quite a drastic change," said Flo ahead of the shave.

"I heard about this project through college and always wanted to take part in animal conservation and I thought that this would be a once in a lifetime opportunity."

The teenager is off to South Africa in August to Tambotie wildlife care centre, which cares for injured and orphaned animals such as lions, giraffes, bush babies and rhinos, as well as carrying out other animal conservation work.

She needs to raise 2,290 to take part in the two-week adventure.

And she kick started her fund-raising with a head shave raising 500, after it was suggested by her mum Christine.
