Flight paths detrimental
A council this week condemned plans to change Stansted Airport's flight paths – arguing it would be detrimental to the tranquillity of rural villages.
At an environmental policy panel on Monday, Mid Suffolk district councillors recommended the council objects to proposals for a new stacking area for aircraft queuing to land at Stansted Airport.
The proposals by the National Air Traffic Service (Nats) would see aircraft flying over Needham Market, Lavenham, Cockfield, Felsham and Thorpe Morieux.
But councillors say the proposal is contrary to the Department of Transport's guidance to the Civil Aviation Authority and would impact on local tourism and lead to increases in noise.
The recommendation will go to full council on May 15 to be agreed.
