Firm hit by flooding after water main bursts in Thetford
A home improvement company has had to suspend business after being flooded by a burst water main.
Thetford Home Improvement Services in Telford Way had to call staff back from jobs to help try to divert water gushing down Telford Way into its premises this morning.
Owner Frank Huson said: “We’ve been flooded in our showroom and offices and it’s even gone into our factory. We’re now ripping up carpets in the offices. We had sandbags but couldn’t stop it coming in.”
“We’ll probably be closed until Monday. We’ll be taking calls but there’s no point anyone visiting us. The water board has blocked our access.”
A fire crew from Thetford joined in the battle to stop the flood and pump out the area as Anglian Water staff worked to stop the leak.
An Anglian Water spokesman said it was called to the burst six inch main at about 10.20am and its staff had contained it by noon.
He added: “We stopped the water coming out but that has left the small industrial estate there without water while we repair it.
“We’re very sorry for the disruption and will get things back to normal as soon as possible.”
