Firefighers tackled a thatched house fire at Nedging Tye on Feburary 22

Firefighters tackled a fire at a thatched house in Nedging Tye near Wattisham last night.

Fire crews were arrived at the scene at around 8pm to find the roof and first floor well alight.

Crews from Hadleigh, Needham Market, Stowmarket, Woodbridge, Ipswich, Sudbury, Bury St Edmunds, Holbrook, Debenham, Felixtowe and Halstead in Essex fought the fire until the early hours of this morning.

Eight pumps were used tackling the fire.

Paul Jolland , from Wickhambrook fire station, said the owners of the property are believed to be on holiday at the time.

He said: “The whole roof has gone, there have been pumps working on putting out the fire all night.

“At the moment we are clearing the debris from the upstairs rooms.

“It appears the owners were on holiday at the time.”

Two fire engines are still at the scene.
