A festive extravaganza of crafts, decorations and other delights which attracts thousands of people every year has launched at a historic barn.

Christmas at Blackthorpe Barn, in Rougham, promises a wealth of yuletide treasures and memories with a country shop, craft fair, Santa’s Grotto and trees from the village estate.

The event, which has been running for 22 years at the 16th century barn, attracts 20,000 visitors a year.

George Agnew, owner of the barn and Rougham Estate, said: “We try to put on a really Christmassy event because it’s in such a beautiful old medieval barn.

“It’s very atmospheric for a lot of people and it’s how they kickstart their Christmas. They’re looking for special presents for family and friends.”

The country Christmas shop is open for business featuring gifts, decorations and lighting under an array of the themes including Woodland Twlight, Vintage Christmas, Nordic Heartland and Home Sweet Home.

More than 60 exhibitors take part in the craft fair, which runs for five weekends from November 17.

All items are hand made and British ranging from decorated glassware to ceramics, jewellery, clothing and sculpture.

Visitors can also buy their Christmas trees, which are grown onRougham Estate.

The estate, which has been in the business for more than 40 years, won the ‘British Christmas Tree Grower of the Year’ award and supplied 10 Downing Street.

Mr Agnew added: “People come year on year to buy them. It’s really what sparked the whole thing - trying to find new ways to sell our trees 22 years ago.”

Families will also be able to visit Santa in his grotto every weekend from November 24 to December 16.
