Feedback needed on benefits

RESIDENTS are being asked to give their views on what will replace Council Tax benefit in Breckland.

The Government’s plans to scrap the system and reduce funding has left local authorities having to design and implement their own schemes from April 1 next year.

Breckland Council is now asking residents for views on its proposed scheme, which has been developed after consultation with partners.

The council claims its changes will see most households pay something towards their council tax, but the most vulnerable households will be protected.

Cllr Bill Smith, executive member for internal services, said: “It is vital that we produce a scheme which minimises the impact of the changes on the district’s most vulnerable households.

“We will now actively seek out resident opinion to help us produce the final scheme.”

Pensioners will be fully protected from the changes.
