Father escapes ban after 100mph dash

The father of three disabled children narrowly escaped a driving ban after admitting driving at 100mph on the A14.

Andrew James Sinclair, 43, from Puffin Court, Stowmarket, broke down as he told Bury St Edmunds Magistrates’ Court that he was speeding to get his son home for medicine after the boy was taken ill at a barbecue.

He told the court: “I apologise for what I’ve done. I’m the only person in the household who can drive.”

Lead magistrate Huw Davies said: “We sympathise with you but this speed could normally remove your licence.”

Sinclair was fined £80 with a £15 victim surcharge and five penalty points on his licence.
