Father assaults new man in ex’s life

A Thetford dad accused of not being a good role-model for his daughter punched and kicked his ex’s new partner.

Lesla Small, prosecuting, told Bury St Edmunds Magistrates’ Court on Friday of the assault which took place at around 6pm on February 26, as Joe Harwood’s ex dropped off their child.

As her new partner walked away following an exchange of words, Harwood grabbed his neck and hit his head and face, said Miss Small.

He fell to the floor and crawled into a foetal position as Harwood kicked and punched him.

“The victim didn’t strike back and was protecting himself,” said Miss Small,

Harwood, 23, of Chalk Close, Thetford, pleaded guilty to assault.

Magistrates ordered a pre-sentence report and released Harwood on conditional bail until December 17.
