A BANGER racing fan will get behind the wheel to compete for the first time in aid of St Nicholas Hospice Care.

Mark Levett, 25, of Bury St Edmunds will compete in the British Open Championships at Mildenhall Stadium this Sunday in a smurf themed car with the hospice’s logo painted on the side.

Mark choose to support St Nicholas Hospice Care due to the support it has given to people close to him.

He said: “The hospice is brilliant, no one can fault the care it provides.”

The championship will open with a series of qualifying races to gain a place in the final and will end with a demolition derby.

The demolition derby is open to all compeitors and is won by the last car racing.

Mark, who has never been involved in even a small shunt before said that he is quite nervous about competing in a race where the only rule is not to hit the drivers door but is looking forward to the experience.

Sue Long, hospice communtiy fund-raiser, said: “I wish Mark the best of luck and I hope he gets through to the final.”

So far Mark has raised £800 and hopes to meet his target of £1,000.
