An explosive kaleidoscope of fizzing and sparkling colour etched the night sky during a fireworks spectacular in Bury St Edmunds.

Six thousand people descended on the Abbey Gardens for the annual event on Saturday, which has been organised by Bury Round Table for more than 20 years.

The varied display ran for about 20 minutes and was delivered by the East Anglian company Premier Fireworks.

Cllr Tim Marks, the Mayor of St Edmundsbury, launched the event following a procession by the Bury Sea Cadets.

Forty five stewards from the Round Table, Young Farmers and the Bury Abbey Rotary Club were on hand to offer support.

Money raised from the night will benefit the Round Table to give to local causes.

Chairman Justin Fletcher said: “The feedback from people was very complimentary. The display was varied and excellent.”
