Ex-police officer had indecent pictures

A FORMER police officer was caught with hundreds of indecent photos of children, a court heard.

Alfred Henry, 77, described what was found at his home as ‘terrible and disgusting’, Ipswich Crown Court heard.

Henry, who served with Essex Police for 30 years, admitted two offences of making indecent photographs of children and one of possessing an extreme pornographic image of a sexual act involving a horse.

The court was told that when police searched Henry’s home in Hubbards Lane, Hessett, on December 22, officers uncovered 526 indecent images of children on a computer and a further 282 images which had been printed off.

Prosecuting, Robert Sadd said most of the images were classified as being at the lower end of the scale of seriousness but two were of the most extreme type.

Andrew Shaw, in mitigation, said Henry’s life had been ‘marred by tragedy’ with the loss of his first wife and the ‘extremely premature death of his son’.

He said: “Whilst providing no excuse for the looking at pornographic images of children, they do provide some explanation as to why he turned to such circumstances to looking at images of this type.”

Henry was given a community order to remain under probation service supervision for three years and take part in an internet sex offender programme. He will remain on the Sexual Offences Register for the next five years.
