Event on future of NHS services

PATIENTS are being given the chance to help shape health services in West Suffolk next week as the Government’s NHS reforms move forward.

A conference will be held at The Apex, in Bury St Edmunds, on Wednesday (July 18), when people can learn more about the plans which will see a group of local doctors take responsibility for commissioning healthcare in the area from next April.

The group is known as the NHS West Suffolk Clinical Commissioning Group and there will be an open discussion with patients on their involvement in the decision-making process.

There will also be information on how patients can participate in the planning and design of health services.

Jo Finn, the lay member leading patient and public engagement for the group, said: “We want local people to join this revolution to help us to plan the best possible health services in the west.

“This event is the start of work with our public to outline more about the clinical commissioning group and for us to learn how public involvement can have a real and positive impact on our services.”

Dr Christopher Browning, chairman of the group, added: “The conference will mark a truly historic moment for the NHS in West Suffolk. Never before has there been such an opportunity for patients to actively participate in planning healthcare. Our patients know what services they need and where they need them, which is why it is so important to get involved.”

The event, from 9.30am to 1pm, is free to attend but places need to be booked in advance. Call (01284) 774796
