Environmental experts expand with new office
WIND turbine specialist Atmos Consulting has expanded with the opening of an office in Thetford.
The firm is one of the UK’s leading environmental consultancies and the new site in Croxford Road is Atmos’ fifth office but the first in this region.
Its growing team of specialist environmental consultants support clients throughout the UK.
Jon Huckle, an ecologist with 17 years of experience, is heading up the Thetford office.
“Atmos has been able to maintain growth in a time of recession and opening our new office puts us in the perfect position to take advantage of the first shoots of economic growth in this region as and when they do occur,” he said.
“We chose Thetford for our first southern base because we have been working on projects in the region, ranging from an Essex shopping centre to a Norfolk housing development.
“This more local base enables us to operate more cost-effectively and sustainably.”
Atmos Consulting has four other offices, two in Scotland, one in Wales and one in the North of England.
The company employs a team of more than 40 ecologists, planners, environmental impact assessment specialists, hydrologists, noise consultants, and renewable energy anaylsts.
It acts as consultants for all stages of development from feasibility studies through to detailed environmental impact assessments and mitigation planning.
The firm has won awards for expertise in the use of geographical information systems while it also has specialist expertise in wind turbines, particularly for inland sites.
Atmos Consulting also provides sustainable environmental solutions for clients in a range of sectors including non-renewable energy, transport and property development.
The business is already growing and expects to be even busier as a result of a national planning policy framework which has a presumption in favour of sustainable development in the South East.
It says the framework points to the Government’s desire to speed up the planning process to deliver more houses – something that Atmos Consulting is perfectly poised to enable through its experience and advice to developers on sustability.
As well as working with developers, the firm is keen to work with community groups wishing to make use of diverse renewable energy technology.
Atmos Consulting says its work also includes biomass and carbon capture projects, offshore wind farms, hydro power, and marine ecology services for wind, wave, tidal and new technology projects.
