Driver crashed into bridge
A DRINK-driver crashed into a bridge after leaving his sister’s birthday party, a court heard.
Casar Rodrigues, 25, of Mingay Road, Thetford, pleaded guilty to driving with excess alcohol when he appeared at Bury St Edmunds Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday.
Prosecuting, Ian Devine said Rodrigues had ‘consumed a lot of alcohol with very little food’ whilst at the birthday party on August 25.
He left to buy cigarettes and then went to a friend’s house where he drank more alcohol.
After leaving, he crashed into a bridge in London Road and walked home, where he was arrested by police, said Mr Devine.
He was breathalysed and recorded 94 micrograms of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath – the legal limit is 35.
District Judge Celia Dawson said his ‘ability to drive was clearly impaired’.
Rodrigues was banned from driving for two years, to be reduced by six months on completion of a driver’s rehabilitation course.
He also received a 12 month community order, with 80 hours unpaid work, and was ordered to pay £85 in costs.
