Deputy leader of county council to step down

The deputy leader of Suffolk County Council is stepping down after six years in the role.

Cllr Jane Storey will not seek re-election for the post and is moving aside for ‘personal reasons’.

However, she will seek re-election as a county councillor in May.

Cllr Storey, who represents the Thedwastre North division and has been cabinet member for finance, resources and transformation for eight years, says the move will allow her to pursue a ‘long held ambition’ to build an eco house.

She also thinks the council will have ‘a lot of new faces in May’ and leader Mark Bee should ‘have the opportunity to make some changes’.

He said: “Jane has been an absolute rock during some challenging times for the county council. I would like to thank her for all her hard work, support and good humour.”
