Delight as pre-school opens new play area
Years of fund-raising have finally paid off for a Stowmarket pre-school as tots have tried out their new play area.
St Peter and St Mary's Pre-School, in Silverdale Avenue, has spent years raising the 20,000 needed to create a state-of-the-art play area.
But despite the economic crisis and grant applications being turned down, staff and parents have battled on to raise the cash.
Sue Bennett, the pre-school's deputy manager, said: "We've been hoping for this play area for quite some time and fund-raising for years. But with the credit crunch, people kept pulling out. Then Stowmarket Town Council gave us a grant so work finally began."
Parents, staff and children got together to watch the unveiling by mayor Vera Waspe.
The new area includes a giant spinning top, slide, climbing frame and bug containers.
A digging area, picnic spot and area to plant flowers and vegetables has also been provided as well as a roofed area to allow youngsters to play outside all year round.
Mrs Bennett said: "It's a dream come true. The children absolutely love it and can't wait to get outside and play."
