Running a half marathon for charity in memory of his mum was not enough for Dan Stevens.

The ex-Royal Signals Corps soldier from Barrow decided ‘tabbing’ — running with a 25kg pack— would make it different.

Though only 25, he left the Army in 2010 after having a pacemaker fitted for a heart condition. “I’m proving I can do something to help,” he said. “Most people just run it, but people are used to that.”

He is doing it to raise money for the Breast Cancer Campaign because his mother, Tracey, died of breast cancer in 2007.

Dan added: “It took a while to come to terms with it, but then I felt I wanted to do something.”
