BID4BURY has joined forces with the Suffolk Chamber of Commerce.

The leaders of Bury St Edmunds strategic partnership and the county chamber of commerce described the link as a ‘major leap forward’ for businesses in Bury.

The move gives Bid4Bury members access to all the chamber’s services while giving the chamber a stronger foothold in West Suffolk.

Bid4Bury’s chief executive Mark Cordell said: “This partnership will mean both Bid4Bury and the Chamber can draw on each other’s experience for the good of business in the town.”

He added: “They’re a bigger organisation so they have greater ‘buying power’. For example, they have a better base for lobbying. They have access to key players at Westminster.

“For networking, because they represent businesses across Suffolk, they’re able to put on a lot of events our members won’t have had access to.”

The chamber’s size means it can also arrange discounts for members, like cheaper insurance, health care, legal advice and credit card processing. Bid4Bury members will now be able to access those.

Mr Cordell said: “One thing I hope our businesses will take advantage of is they have a support mechanism for businesses less than two years old.

“I’m really keen for our businesses to take advantage of that.

“It’s a real benefit for our fledgling businesses that I wouldn’t be able to offer them.”

John Dugmore, Suffolk Chamber of Commerce’s chief executive, said: “We know that Mark and over 370 members of Bid4Bury are working hard to promote Bury and build on its great history.

“That is why we are delighted to seal this formal partnership which means Bid4Bury is a key partner of the Suffolk Chamber and the economic success of Bury can continue for years to come.”
