Councillors press for school closure decision to be scrutinised
Liberal Democrat councillors are pressing for the decision to axe middle schools in Stowmarket and Stowupland to be called in for scrutiny.
Suffolk County Cllrs Penny Otton and Kathy Pollard have proposed and seconded a motion for the authority’s scrutiny committee to assess the recent decision to close the schools.
The monitoring officer is yet to officially sign off on their request.
Cllr John Field, deputy leader of the Liberal Democrats, said the majority of the group’s councillors were behind the scrutiny move following concerns over the ‘democratic issues’ relating to the decision.
