Council advised to impose cuts
SUFFOLK county councillors have been recommended to impose £26.2 million in budget cuts.
They have also been advised to freeze the authority’s share of Council Tax for the second consecutive year.
The plans were signed off by the cabinet on Tuesday and a final decision will be made by the full council when it agrees the 2012/13 budget next month.
It follows four months of consultation with partners, councillors, staff and the public.
The majority of savings will be made by improving efficiency including a 1.5 per cent cut across all departments and focusing more on prevention in adult care.
If given the go-ahead, the Council Tax freeze would see the Band D rate remain at £1,126.53.
The budget proposals are the first stage of a two year plan to save £50 million.
Council leader Mrak Bee said: “The financial challenges we are facing are significant, but I’m determined that we must find a way to meet them while protecting the services we all value. I will continue to challenge the council to do everything it can to deliver the best for people in Suffolk.”
