Council opens doors to new and improved recycling site
Opening of new Thetford recycling centre. FL;
Thetford’s residents will be making use of a new £1 million recycling facility after the gates were officially opened yesterday.
The site, on Telford Way, replaces the old site at Burrell Way which Norfolk County Council believes has become too small for purpose.
A new Reuse Shop, where people can donate and buy good quality household items, is one of the main features of the site.
Parking has also been increased, with space for four times as many cars.
Bill Borrett, Norfolk County Council’s cabinet member for environment and waste, said: “Our new recycling centre replaces the smallest main centre, which was also the fourth busiest (in the county), so the people who use it know very well how congested it can get.
“The new site is designed to put an end to all that - and with customer service and value for taxpayers’ money in mind.”
The development is part of a £4 million investment by the county council, with three other sites having been opened in Caister, Dereham and King’s Lynn since 2008.
