Council and horse and carriage operator to be prosecuted in crown court over death at Nowton Park Country Fair
The Health and Safety prosecution of a council and a man over the death of a woman trampled by a horse, will now take place in the crown court.
Representatives of St Edmundsbury Borough Council, and Duncan Drye, the owner and operator of a horse and carriage ride business, appeared before Bury St Edmunds magistrates this afternoon.
Both face a single charge of contravening a health and safety regulation.
The charges relate to the death of Carole Bullett who was trampled by a horse at Nowton Park County Fair in June 2011.
Mrs Bullett, 57, of Clark Walk, Bury, had been at the fair with her husband, daughter and grandson.
No indication of plea was given by either Drye or the council at this afternoon’s hearing.
Both must return to the court on February 21 when the case will be formally committed to the crown court.
