Council and Bury St Edmunds man sent to crown court following death of woman trampled by a horse at Nowton Park Country Fair
A council and a horse and carriage operator who are both charged with breaching health and safety laws after a woman was trampled by a horse at Nowton Park Country Fair and died, will appear before the crown court next month.
Magistrates in Bury St Edmunds formally committed the case against St Edmundsbury Borough Council and Duncan Drye, 64, of Bishops Road, Bury, to Ipswich Crown Court this afternoon.
Both face a single charge of breaching health and safety regulations.
It follows the death of 57-year-old Carole Bullett of Clark Walk, Bury.
She had been at the fair with her husband, daughter and grandson when the tragedy happened. She died the next day in hospital.
Drye and representatives of the council were told today that they will appear at the crown court on March 22 when they are expected to enter pleas.
The magistrates court also heard that any subsequent trial will be likely to take place between the end of April and mid-June.
Drye was released on unconditional bail to appear in the crown court next month.
