Lavenham was lit up on Friday night as a weekend of festive revelry got under way.

The family of Cpl Jonathan Woodgate, who died while serving in Afghanistan in 2010, turned on the Christmas lights at the Guildhall to kick off proceedings.

Inside, visitors were treated to an array of entertainment, including food and craft stalls.

Lesley Thompson, from the organising committee, said the weekend had gone smoothly after six months of planning.

“It’s a small committee and I was stunned by the how much detail and painstaking research was done to make sure things went well,” she said.
