Conservative wins police and crime commissioner election
Conservative candidate Tim Passmore has been elected police and crime commissioner for Suffolk.
He beat Labour’s Jane Basham after second preference votes were counted as neither candidate got 50 per cent of the votes.
Police and crime commissioners will replace police authorities with responsibility for the budget and setting out local policing priorities.
Turnout for the Suffolk election was 16.01 per cent with 88,497 residents voting out of an overall electorate of 552,780.
Mr Passmore secured 36,946 votes with Mrs Basham at 35,005.
