Company puts out plea for community centre members

Cedars Park Community Interest Company (CIC) is appealing to residents to sign up as members approaching the opening of the estate’s new community centre.

Since their election in May 2010, CIC Chairman Dusty Miller and his team have been working to arrange a programme of activities ready for the centre’s May opening date.

But Dusty said he was eager to get the local community on board and create a firm membership base for the centre.

He said: “I feel a bit like a driver about to go on an exciting ride but with no passengers.

“I know once the centre is open it will be well used but if residents want to have a say on how things are run they need to become members of the CIC as well as the community centre.

“It is about accountability and who we answer to.

“When we have an AGM we need these people to come along and say whether we are doing a good job or getting it wrong.

“We are well aware of the tremendous amount of goodwill and community spirit that exists but it needs to be translated into a firm membership base that will ensure the centre not only prospers commercially but that residents ensure the CIC meet their needs.”

The centre’s open weekend is planned for May 25-27 with an official opening ceremony on Saturday, June 8 - with MP David Ruffley performing the honours.

A catering team have been brought in to run the family club facility from 9am to 11am daily, serving hot food, snacks and drinks.

Cedars Park Pre-School, run by Michelle Baker, is on track to open on September 5.

Membership to the Community Interest Company is free and as an incentive, Dusty said any resident signed up by April 30 would receive free membership of the community centre.
