Company pays tribute to Bury St Edmunds worker who fell 40ft to his death

A company where a man fell 40ft to his death have paid tribute to him this week.

Police and the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) are investigating after Paul Ebbens fell from a walkway at the Pauls Malt industrial unit in Bury St Edmunds.

Mr Ebbens, 57, a shift operator at the firm in Eastern Way, died at the scene.

Pauls Malt is part of the Boortmalt group.

A company spokesman said: “Paul was a valued member of our team, and will be greatly missed having worked at Bury for over 20 years.

“His friends and colleagues are deeply saddened by his sudden death and our thoughts and condolences are with his family at this time.”

Mr Ebbens lived in Church Row, Bury.

An inquest into his death, which happened last Wednesday morning, opened and adjourned on Tuesday.

Police, who are leading an inquiry together with the HSE, said it was being treated as an industrial accident.
