Cockfield receives its Village of the Year Award

Cockfield win the Suffolk village of the year. Villagers and prize winners at Cockfield Village Hall.

Villagers from all over the county gathered in Cockfield village hall on Saturday to receive the awards they won in the 2012 Suffolk Village of the Year competition.

Cockfield can now proudly display the certificates and plaque that marks it winning the Village of the Year award, run by the Suffolk Association of Local Councils, and the Suffolk Wildlife Trust Natural Environment Award it’s Earl’s Meadow tied with Worlingworth for.

Janne Cutting-Keyton, who co-ordinated Cockfield’s entry, said: “Cockfield isn’t a village that sits back and waits for things not to happen neither does it say ‘we’ve done that so there is no need to do any more!’

“I am delighted to receive these awards on behalf of the people of Cockfield and I must congratulate our competitors for making it a hard fought competition. In this room we have representatives from some of the very best villages Suffolk has to offer, all winners in our own right.”

Twenty villages entered and award co-ordinator Rona Burt said: “It’s not chocolate box villages. It’s about the people there and who they care for.”
