Co-op stores across Suffolk and Norfolk to get defibrilators as part of life saving campaign
Co-op stores across Suffolk, Norfolk and Essex are getting life-saving defibrilators as part of a campaign supported by the East of England Ambulance Service.
So far 30 stores have been picked out by the ambulance service to have the heart starting devices. It forms part of the East of England Co-operative Society’s Every Minute Counts campaign.
Volunteer community first responders will train staff on how to use the machines which also give voice prompts to the users.
Amanda Long, Executive Officer – Membership, Marketing and Media for the East of England Co-operative Society, added: “We are delighted to be working with the East of England Ambulance Service to provide this potentially lifesaving service to communities within East Anglia.
“In many instances the unit will be placed on one of our stores as they are often positioned at the heart of rural locations.
“However, as a community retailer we want to place the defibrillators where they are needed, not just where we trade.”
Regional Community Partnership Lead for the ambulance service, Lorna Hayes said: “This is a very ambitious project and with so many of these devices available to the public throughout the region it is important that people, not only know where they are but how to use them as well.
“Every minute really does count and it’s great to work with the East of England Co-operative Society on such an exciting opportunity.”
