Civil ceremonies to be held at historic town building

COUPLES in Bury St Edmunds wanting to tie the knot by having a local authority civil ceremony or partnership will now be able to share their big day at the town’s Athenaeum.

From December 1, ceremonies, similar to those conducted in a register office, can take place in the Grade I listed building’s Old Billiards Room.

It is part of an accommodation move by Suffolk County Council’s registrars service in Bury.

The service is to leave its current home at the council’s former Shire Hall offices and move to offices within Suffolk House on Angel Hill.
