Children’s novel approach to charity
Roald Dahl day at St James Middle School in Bury.
THE kaleidoscopic colour and fun of Willie Wonka’s chocolate factory was on display at West Suffolk schools as characters from Roald Dahl’s novels jumped from page to classroom.
Pupils at St James Middle and Badwell Ash Primary donned vibrant costumes on Friday to take the guise of protagonists such as the BFG, Fantastic Mr Fox and the Oompa-Loompas.
The activity aimed to raise funds for Roald Dahl’s Marvellous Children’s Charity, which supports children with lifelong neurological and blood conditions.
Pupils at St James read Dahl’s books and some lessons were based around his work.
At Badwell Ash Primary, children made enormous crocodiles, stink bug eggs from James and the Giant Peach and Snozzcumbers from the BFG.
Judy Prosser, head of history and school council co-ordinator at St James, said: “We did it last year and the children love it. It was a fantastic atmosphere.”
