The chief executive of St Edmundsbury Borough Council and Forest Heath District Council received a £5,000 relocation package as part of his move from Plymouth.

The September payment to Ian Gallin was revealed in response to a Freedom of Information request made by the Bury Free Press.

The request also revealed that he claimed £824 out of a possible £2,000 in expenses while staying in bed and breakfast accomodation from April to the end of August when his family moved up from Plymouth.

A spokeswoman from St Edmundsbury Borough Council, said the bed and breakfast claims related to a 20 week period while Mr Gallin’s family was still living in Plymouth.

She said that part of the contractual arrangements for his appointment was an allowance of up to £100 a week to allow for late meetings or other times when he needed to stay in overnight accomodation as part of his work in West Suffolk.
