THREE students raised more than £140 for charity after being inspired by a 12-year-old with a lust for life.

Mildenhall College of Technology students Courtney Reeve, Victoria Peacock and Tiffany Allatson raised £142 for deaf and blind charity Sense by collecting change at break and lunch times.

Courtney was inspired by Mark Baines, 12, after they met at an art class.

She said: “I was inspired by Mark’s true happiness for life and it made me realise just how special life is and how much we all take it for granted.

“It made me want to help young people with the same challenges in life that Mark faces every day.”

Courtney and Victoria gave talks at house assemblies to highlight the collection and attended the college carol service to raise more funds.

The three fund-raisers were recently invited to the Sense shop in Ipswich to present a cheque to the charity and were joined by Mark and his mother, Leanne Baines.

Ms Baines said: “I think it is wonderful that this activity shows that all young people have the potential to contribute so much to society.”

Courtney intends to continue to raise money for charity.
